Moody heads offshore

Plenty of sailing has taken place on the Moody 45 DS following its world release at this years Sydney International Boat Show.

The Moody 45 DS imported by Windcraft Australia, one of Australia’s leading yacht importers, has had intense interest since its launch at the Sydney Show. With plenty of industry reviews and test sails with prospective owners taking place on Pittwater, just north of Sydney, Moody Sales Director Bob Vinks decided it was time to take her for offshore trip up the coast. ??”The performance of the Moody had exceeded my expectations on each occasion that I sailed her, but I thought as she is designed as a true offshore cruiser, that a short coastal passage would be the true test”, said Mr Vinks.

“Windcraft had organised a tag along sail for our Hanse Yacht owners to Port Stephens and I figured this was a perfect opportunity to take the Moody offshore”, he said. ??”On a balmy summer like evening, with four people on board we headed north into fresh northerly winds varying from 10 – 20 knots. We sailed at 38-40 degrees off the wind and held a steady 7.4 knots. With the comfort of knowing that we had the 110hp Yanmar to help us if required. With a majestic sunrise, stunning scenery and dolphins playing off the bow we headed into Port Stephens convinced that this was the only way to sail”, said Bob. ??Moody 45ds by Windcraft Australia

Despite strong winds for the return trip the Moody 45 DS once again exceeded the expectations of all on board. ??”We headed off with next to no wind, but it soon built to a healthy NW at 15 – 20 knots when we sailed at a steady 8 – 9 knots letting the autopilot steer,” said Bob. ??”It wasn’t long until the weather turned it up to a steady 25 – 30 knots with gusts of 35 knots from the west! It was no problem, this boat loved it, and we averaged 10.2 knots over a 4 hour period.

Other than a solid caking of salt and red dust from Ayres Rock, we didn’t have any issues. We even relaxed inside the deck saloon protected from the elements, and let the autopilot steer whilst we took in the 360 degree view of our surroundings,” he said.

“For the return trip I had one of the guys from the Windcraft Service Centre on board,” said Bob. “His reaction was extremely positive in every respect. Having spent plenty of time on deck of traditional sailing yachts, the performance, safety and general comfort of the deck saloon just blew him away.” ??Mr Vinks confirmed that following the launch at the Sydney Boat Show several orders have been confirmed, with the next Moody 45 DS due to arrive in Sydney prior to Christmas. A true deck saloon with safe and comfortable sailing performance, backed by long range and economical performance under motor, the Moody 45 Ds is sure to become a familiar site both on the bays, harbours and offshore. ??For further information, print quality photos or to arrange a private inspection, please contact Bob Vinks at Windcraft on (02) 9979 1709 or email
